Description:

Mahmoud H. Ismail received the B.Sc. degree (with highest honors) in Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering, the M.Sc. degree in Communications Engineering both from Cairo University, Giza, Egypt, in 2000 and 2002, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS, USA in 2006.

From 2000 to 2003, he was a Research and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering at Cairo University. Between 2004 and 2006, he was a Research Assistant in the Center for Wireless Communications (CWC) at the University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS, USA. Since 2006, he has been a Systems Engineering Consultant for Newport Media Inc. Egypt Design Center in Cairo. In addition, he has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering at Cairo University. During the course of his work with NMI, he played a key role in the design of synchronization and equalization algorithms for various OFDM-based mobile-TV receivers under different standards including T-DMB, MediaFLO, CMMB as well as DVB. He also participated in creating/integrating complete system models for such standards and others including ATSC and ATSC M/H. In addition, Dr. Ismail participated in the design and conformance testing of various audio codecs such as AAC, AAC+ and DRA.

Dr. Ismail’s research is in the general area of wireless communications with emphasis on performance evaluation of next generation wireless systems, communications over fading channels and error-control coding.

Dr. Ismail has more than 30 publications in international journals and conferences as well as one US patent. He is the recipient of the University of Mississippi Summer Assistantship award in 2004 and 2005, The University of Mississippi Dissertation Fellowship Award in 2006, The University of Mississippi Graduate Achievement Award in Electrical Engineering in 2006 and the Best Paper Award presented at the 10th IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC 2005), La Manga del Mar Menor, Spain. He served as a reviewer for several refereed journals and conferences as well as for the ITAC program for ITIDA in Egypt in 2009 and 2010 and the Alcatel-Lucent partnership funding program in 2007. He is a Member of Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi, and a Member of the IEEE.
